Wojciech KACZMAREK – From the Human Experience to the Love of a Person: The Human Person and Their Relationships with Others, as seen in the Literary Output of Karol Wojtyła–John Paul II

Cena brutto: 7,00 PLN za szt.

The central issue of the philosophical works of Karol Wojtyła was the human person. Wojtyła’s literary works, which he began writing at the end of the 1930s and continued through the 1950s and 1960s, and even later, when he was a cardinal and then the pope, coincided with his philosophical and theological reflections on man. In my article, I attempt to show— from a personalistic perspective—that his poems and dramas embody the mature and completely thought-over concept of the person. According to Wojtyła, the human being is both an irreducible subject and—since they are able to discover themselves completely only in the relationship to God and another person—a relation. This concept is clearly visible in Wojtyła’s poetry and drama. In his literary works, he continues the description of personal relations in the context of Christian anthropology. While in his philosophical works Wojtyła combined metaphysical Thomistic anthropology with phenomenological analysis, thus highlighting the uniqueness of the person, in his literary output, he applied an original formula  of “penetrating into the person’s interior.” Wojtyła emphasized the fact that man is a relational being, but he also pointed out the situations in which a person may be separated from other people and which, therefore, threaten the person’s subjectivity. In order to be fully a person, one needs to feel free to give themselves selflessly to another person.
