In a commemorative essay, the author discusses his interview with Rita M. Mastalski, the daughter of Karol Hagenhuber, a school friend of Karol Wojtyła’s. Karol Hagenhuber’s father owned a cafe in Wadowice about which Pope John Paul II spoke extensively while visiting his hometown during his apostolic trip to Poland in 1999. In the extracts from the interview in question, Rita M. Mastalski describes her father’s friendship with Karol Wojtyła and the further contacts between her family and John Paul II.
