Mirosława CHUDA, In ‘Eternal’ Memory

Cena brutto: 7,00 PLN za szt.

Drawing on the funerary sentence which was traditionally recited as part of burial ceremonies in order to express an assurance that the deceased would be kept in ‘eternal’ memory by the mourners, the essay argues that it is impossible to fulfill such a promise due to the limitations of memory, whether individual or collective, such as its transitory nature and the tendency to distort the past.

Keywords: individual memory, collective memory, memory of the dead, limitations of memory
