Angelika PAWLACZYK, Between Joy and Nostalgia: Memories of the Communist Era, as Shared by Members of the Polish Community in Stryi, Ukraine

Cena brutto: 7,00 PLN za szt.

Among the organizations active in Stryi in the Lviv Oblast in Ukraine is the Association of the Polish Culture of the Lviv Land, which brings together members of the Polish minority and is focused on promoting the Polish culture among them. The collapse of the Soviet Union was a breakthrough in the lives of the residents of Ukraine, and they repeatedly refer to it in their opinions. The memories of the past are still vivid among them, and also members of the Polish community in Stryi constantly juxtapose the present reality with the communist past. Interestingly, their memories frequently show internal contradictions. The objective of the present article is an analysis, on the one hand, of the memories of the Polish residents of Stryi regarding the Soviet times and, on the other, of their attitudes to the communist era. The source material for the presentation is interviews with representatives of the Polish community in Stryi recorded during the author’s sociolinguistic research of 2018 and 2019.
