The aim of the paper is to present the theme of power in the first three novels of the Dune Chronicles series by Frank Herbert, focused on the character of Paul Atreides. By analyzing the story of Paul Atreides and his attempts to achieve political and religious domination as well as control over time, the author investigates the limits of power and the limits of humanness. The discussed novels: Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune, which draw on Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy, comprise a criticism of the idea of secular messianism.
