Leszek KORPOROWICZ, Reductive Pitfalls of the Sociology of “Thinking Machines”

Cena brutto: 7,00 PLN za szt.

The most important objectives of the article is to indicate the numerous simplifications that are made in the analysis of social reality supported by modern and future applications of artificial intelligence. The performance of this task is based on a discussion of the reductions to which the hypothetical sociology of “thinking machines” is doomed as a typical example of misunderstandings caused by the frequent creation of too far-reaching metaphors. More importantly, the consequence of this type of practice is the hidden replacement of the proper subject of social sciences and humanities, which is man and his humanity, with the instruments they use, an example of which is the so-called “digital humanities.” The analyses will relate to three research areas of sociology, such as relationships, bonds and social identities in the context of the possibilities that the sociology of technologically advanced machines and their impact on humans would meet. In the most important issue of the process of building and the typology of social identities, the article refers to the concept of logo-creating dynamics of culture as an important factor in forming the meaning and value of human actions, which is difficult to find in the functional, instrumental and parameterized reality of machines and their systems. Moreover, the article will show a radical difference of each of the dynamics depending on the level of their implementation, which is indicated by the theory of positive disintegration by Kazimierz Dąbrowski and cultural sociology by Antonina Kłoskowska. As a result, a list of requirements is created to which the sociology of artificial intelligence cannot respond if it abandons the fundamental categories of human reality, such as dignity, honor, freedom or responsibility, and thus the autotelic values of man.

Keywords: axiological reductionism, artificial intelligence, logo-creative dynamics of culture, humanistic sociology, the concept of multi-level development
