“The Hyperion Cantos” by a well-known American science fiction writer Dan Simmons is one of the most outstanding achievements of hard SF in the last decades. It is an epic story of the struggle of a handful of protagonists against artificial intelligences of the TechnoCore for the future shape of the universe. At the same time, it is one of the few SF works attempting to unite the physical and metaphysical realities with the help of the elements of Christian philosophy. The present article briefly analyzes the above motifs.

Keywords: science fiction, artificial intelligences, Dan Simmons, Hyperion cycle, eschatology, ontology, quantum physics, evolution of the universe
