Alina MĄDRY, Henryk Wieniawski and His Oeuvre, as seen in the Light of the Series “The Complete Works of Henryk Wieniawski”

Cena brutto: 7,00 PLN za szt.

Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880), the world-famous violinist, composer, and pedagogue, was considered one of the most outstanding virtuosos of his time. His career involving continuous travel, he was little concerned about his legacy; as a consequence his works remain scattered. The musician’s life was focused mainly on giving concerts; he was also known for his creative inventiveness, being able to perform excerpts of a given work in different variants. Thus the most difficult problem researchers face is finding the correct source text. Not all the sources in which Wieniawski’s compositions were preserved meet contemporary editorial standards. Some autographs, manuscripts, and first editions were irretrievably lost or survived in fragments. In 2006, the project to publish the series “The Complete Works of Henryk Wieniawski” was initiated and the Scholarly-Editorial Board was appointed by the Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society to oversee the works on the composer’s artistic output. The project has two main goals: (1) to reconstruct and publish, as a source edition for the purposes of both contemporary concert practice and scholarly research, Wieniawski’s compositions in the form closest to the composer’s intentions; (2) to promote, as widely as possible, Wieniawski’s works in the musical world. Preserving the composer’s output, making it available, and popularizing it are the most important results of the project. Not only will the publication of “The Complete Works of Henryk Wieniawski” contribute to a greater appreciation of his achievements in the musical culture of Poland and the world, but it will also help restore the composer to his rightful place among the most important figures in the history of violin music.
