The hundredth anniversary of the birth of John Paul II provides an opportunity, as well as a need, to look at his biography more closely, exploring the ways in which he influenced the modern history of the Church, the world, and Poland. The author of the paper analyzes the style which marks the written works of the Pope from Cracow, as well as his actions. It appears that both John Paul II’s thinking and acting were aimed at providing an ideational synthesis by way of dialogue. Indeed, ‘synthesis’ and ‘dialogue’ mark various areas of Wojtyła’s activity, whether he continued it as a poet, a philosopher, or a priest. The author of the present essay comments on (1) the young Wojtyła’s poetic project, which already manifests the idea of a synthesis of various traditions; (2) his philosophical synthesis of ethics and anthropology, the two disciplines conceived as ‘philosophy of human matters’; (3) the humanistic sense of interreligious dialogue continued by the Pope; (4) his idea of the ‘union’ as the political scheme reflecting the philosophical principle of participation.
